Regulars are specific this falls within the rainy season here, several genuinely wet days a real possibility across a typical trip, though conditions stay meaningfully more comfortable than the following July once real summer heat and mugginess arrive. April is sakura month here - peak is usually from mid-April - and the Nara forum's advice is mostly about beating the day-trippers who come out from Kyoto and Osaka. Todaiji opens at 7:30 in April and stays comparatively quiet until 9 or 10, which is the argument for staying the night rather than arriving mid-morning. A day trip covers central Nara - Todaiji, the park, Kasuga Taisha - while Horyuji, Toshodaiji and Yakushiji need an overnight. On a wet day regulars are unbothered: fewer people come, and once you are inside Todaiji it makes no difference.
