hiking

We booked our park entrance tickets and campsites four months out after reading how quickly the W Trek fills, and downloaded our QR codes while we still had internet in Puerto Natales since there's no signal at all once inside the park. A buff turned out to be worth more than our heaviest jacket, versatile enough for wind, sun, and cold depending on the hour. We'd practiced hikes with a loaded ten-kilogram pack beforehand and were glad we did once we hit the climb up into the Frances Valley. Organic Maps, downloaded offline before the trip, kept us confidently on trail the whole route even without any signal. The final push up to the towers at dawn was every bit as good as the photos promise.
