Getting around
A guide to Sun Moon Lake notes ferries connect the main scenic spots every 10-15 minutes from Shuitou Pier, running 9am to 5pm, but service stops around 4:50pm, so anyone planning a full-day loop needs to plan the return trip before then rather than assume evening ferries exist. Their bike-rental tip: electric bikes get rented out quickly near popular trail entrances, especially around Ita Thao, so book or arrive early if you specifically want an e-bike rather than a traditional one for the lakeside paths.
