Wind still turns up - April can blow - but the west end and West Bay sit in the lee and stay calmer. Sargassum is the other question and April is on the right side of it: the bloom is lighter from December to May and lands mainly on east-side beaches, with West Bay and West End largely shielded by how the island sits against the prevailing wind. The record: 31C days that feel like 36C, 24.6C nights, 6.4 precipitation days, a 27.6C sea and a 33 kph breeze.

Utila's forum is candid that November is the wettest month of the year on the island, with roughly even odds of rain on any given day - some trips get lucky with mostly sunshine, others run into stretches that feel like a genuine monsoon. Divers shouldn't let that put them off though: water temperatures stay warm enough that a shorty wetsuit is plenty, and the diving itself isn't really affected by surface rain. The honest framing from regulars is that November is a gamble worth taking if the trip dates are otherwise fixed, not a month to specifically avoid.

Forum posters consistently call late April into May the sweet spot for Utila - 'not wet and not too hot,' with one poster warning that the rest of the year generally doesn't hold to that same balance. May itself is described as pleasantly quiet before the summer break crowds arrive, warm water temperatures rising through the month, and lower rainfall odds than most of the year barring a stray nearby storm. Posters recommend it specifically for diving and snorkeling given the combination of good visibility, comfortable conditions and thinner crowds compared to the busier winter high season.
