Humpbacks come into Samana Bay to court and calve from January to March, and the season is fixed to the day: the 15th of January to the 31st of March, in what is a designated marine mammal sanctuary. Regulars add that later is better if you want to see mothers with their young, which makes March the pick of the three rather than the last resort - and that a trip in April misses it entirely. Excursions all leave from the port in Samana town. Samaná-area forum threads describe July as hot and sunny most days, typically 33C or more, with tropical showers a regular but usually brief feature rather than something that derails a day - warm evenings and lots of sun are the overall theme. Multiple posters specifically pushed back on online weather apps that show high rain-percentage forecasts here, calling them misleading since actual conditions run far sunnier than the numbers suggest; a passing shower can register as 'rain' for the day while barely interrupting time outside. July does fall within hurricane season, so posters recommended keeping half an eye on tropical storm tracking even on an otherwise sunny-forecast trip.
