Visby's medieval old town still looks beautiful under string lights, but pack a proper waterproof coat over a snow jacket - you're more likely to be walking through slush than powder.

Early June gets you Gotland at its best and its emptiest — the forum rates late May and early June as when nature peaks and the crowds have not arrived, with weather notably better than the rest of the Scandinavian peninsula and less rain. Eighteen hours of daylight, 21°C days. The catch is that quite a few restaurants and cafés do not open until mid-June, so early June trades company for closures.
