Note dei viaggiatori su Skye in gennaio
Note da Fort William, qui vicino (a 93 km)
Skye non ha ancora note sue per gennaio: queste parlano di Fort William, abbastanza vicino da condividere la stagione.
Fort William-forum threads on climbing Ben Nevis in winter describe real snow as likely above roughly two thousand feet, posters calling deep cover common by January even when the town sees none. Regulars call the mountain's weather its own separate beast, Fort William basking in sunshine while the summit sits shrouded in mist with near-zero visibility or a real storm. Posters call daylight genuinely limited, climbers heading up over the holidays sometimes caught out after dark. Regulars recommend real cold-weather layers and boots regardless of the town's look, conditions capable of turning cold and wet with little warning. Posters recommend proper winter mountaineering experience or a guide for a real summit try. Regulars call the town still worth a winter visit even without summiting, the loch and lower glens rewarding regardless of the Ben. The record: 6.5C days feeling like 3C, 1.3C nights, an extraordinarily high 182.4mm across over 18 days and 93 percent humidity.

Regulars are consistent this counts among the better months to visit specifically because midge numbers drop off fast and become far more localized than the widespread swarms of mid-June through August, even as rain chances stay about the same as any other month. Our row backs that cool, genuinely wet read, 14.5C over 11.3C nights feeling 9C, with a substantial 164.1mm of rain across over 20 days and a real 25.5 kph wind. Regulars are honest an early-September Indian summer can occasionally push highs to a pleasant 16-17C, though a rainy, spitting stretch in the low teens is just as likely. Layers remain the standard, near-universal advice regardless of which version of the month shows up. The sea sits at a cold 14.3C. The record: humidity 83 percent, 6.2 hours of sun and one of the cleanest air readings in this project, AQI 30.
August is peak season for midges here, and regulars are precise about the mechanism: the insects want warm, damp, still air and cannot survive real wind, so any day with sun, wind or rain - and this island frequently has at least one of those, often two - keeps the problem manageable. Our row backs that description almost exactly, a real 22.6 kph wind alongside 157mm of rain across 19.2 days at 84 percent humidity, with 15.9C reading as 14C over 12.5C nights. The Gulf Stream keeps temperatures mild despite the Atlantic exposure, but regulars still call the weather changeable enough to swing from awful to clear in a few hours. Those wanting to dodge midges entirely are pointed toward April or May instead. The sea is 15C. The record: 8 hours of sun and AQI 31.
The strongest argument regulars make for April here is about an insect. Midges do not hatch this early - it is rare before May and sporadic until mid-June - so the walking is done without them, and the main season has not started, so the roads are quiet. April, May and June are also the driest months of the year on this coast. What they will not promise is the day itself: a fine one around 60F or a cold wet one around 40F or anything between, which brackets our average of 10.2C feeling like 7C. Pack warm clothes and waterproofs. The light is the other gain, 14.4 hours of daylight already. The record: 76.7mm across 13.8 days, 1cm of snow and a 22.5 kph wind.
July is peak midge season on Skye and the regulars' answer turns our own row into good news: it is the weather rather than the month that decides them, any breeze or sunlight keeps them down, and the trouble comes on warm still days in damp sheltered spots. Our 20.2 kph wind and 20.5 precipitation days under 15.9C are, by that logic, the defence rather than the problem. Uig is about the least bitten village on the island. July also has more rain than May while being warmer, and it shares with August the school holidays, so expect it busy every day - though Skye is big and it is a handful of hotspots that fill rather than the whole island. Book beds as early as you can; much goes a year ahead. The record: 12.2C nights, 8.3 hours of sun, 17.2 hours of daylight and a 15C sea.
