Getting around
A guide to Tavira recommends reaching Praia do Barril via the miniature train that crosses the Ria Formosa lagoon, a quirky and genuinely fun way to get to the sandbar beach known for its field of rusting anchors, remnants of the town's former tuna-fishing industry. Their transport tip for the town overall: a car isn't necessary if you're staying mainly in Tavira and its nearby beaches, since taxis are cheap and Uber or Bolt both operate reliably in the area.
