Visas & entry
A practical guide to Ortigia, Syracuse's old-town island, recommends parking in lots outside the historic center if you're road-tripping through Sicily, then reaching your accommodation by foot, taxi, or the 105 bus line, which loops regularly over the bridges connecting Ortigia to the mainland. Their strongest advice was not to treat Syracuse as a day trip from elsewhere: staying at least 3-4 nights lets you actually settle into Ortigia's pace and avoid overlapping with the cruise-ship crowds that dominate the island during midday hours.
