  Loggerheads nest on the sugar-white sand from May, and hatchlings run for the water from midsummer into October. Beachfront lights go amber or off after dark and chairs have to be cleared from the sand each night.

  The Gulf here is comfortable from May and genuinely warm from July to September. It cools quickly in November, and January and February are wetsuit water despite the sunshine.
