First-time visitors to Yerevan recommend getting a local SIM card at the airport before doing anything else, since ride-hailing apps like Yandex Go and GG are by far the most reliable way to get around the city and need a working data connection and a paired card to function. They found fixed, upfront pricing through these apps far less stressful than negotiating with street taxis, and suggest setting the apps up on your phone before you land if possible.

Forum posters describe March in Yerevan as genuinely unpredictable, sometimes behaving like real spring with heavy rain, other times turning cold and snowy - locals reportedly call it crazy March since almost anything can happen. Posters are consistent that the city itself usually stays snow-free by March, even though the surrounding highlands can hold snow until April, and consistently recommend warm coats, gloves and caps alongside versatile layers and boots just in case. Posters describe a genuine reward for a late-March visit specifically: apricot trees beginning to blossom and gardens coming into bloom around the city. Posters generally rate March as workable but weather-unpredictable, with mountain views of nearby peaks still reliably snow-capped regardless of what the city itself is doing.
September is among the forum's favourite months in Armenia: pleasant, clear-skied, and harvest season. Yerevan runs near 27°C by day but drops to about 13 at night, and posters warn it can turn windy and cool after dark, so a jacket earns its place even in a warm month. Rain is possible but rare, barely a day across the month. Regulars specifically recommend the second half of September, when the open-air cafés and restaurants are still running late, and late September into early October for photography, when the air goes clear.
