  A landslide at Pretty Rocks took out the road halfway along. A new bridge opened in August 2026 for hikers and cyclists only; buses still stop at Mile 43.   The dwarf birch and blueberry go red across the whole open tundra for about three weeks from late August, well before the aspens down at the entrance. Bears are on the berries at the same time, which is why the buses stop.
