风俗与礼节

A guide to Baku from a couple who traveled there notes that dressing modestly, especially at religious sites and mosques, is genuinely expected and appreciated, and that greeting people with a handshake is the local norm reflecting Azerbaijani hospitality. They also flag that bargaining is standard practice at city bazaars like Yashil Bazaar, so don't hesitate to negotiate on produce and souvenirs, and that visiting during the Baku Grand Prix weekend brings road closures and inflated hotel prices worth planning around.

巴库的旅人笔记

去过的人怎么说——先是全年通用的笔记,再逐月来看。

Baku forum threads describe January as one of the coldest months here, with typical daytime temperatures around 5-8C, but posters were consistent that the city's notoriously high winds - Baku's name is often linked to 'city of winds' - make even 7-8C feel more like 2-3C in practice. Real snowfall in the capital itself was described as rare, maybe once or twice a winter, while nearby northern regions and mountain villages like Quba, Qusar and Gabala see snow far more reliably. The standard advice was serious warm layering - scarf, hat and gloves - and posters also flagged that January 1st and 2nd are public holidays here, meaning some shops and restaurants may run limited hours right at the start of the month.

April in Baku is a clear-sky month with a wind problem, and the wind is not incidental - the city's own name for itself is the City of Winds. Regulars give afternoons around 16C and nights near 12C, warming noticeably after the 15th to 20th, and our row's 19C reads as 17C once the wind is counted, with the blunt local version being that 10 degrees feels like 5. Our row carries 32.7 kph, among the highest in this whole round. What April buys is sun: they count roughly 23 clear days in the month against about 9 with rain, and our row gives 3.5 precipitation days carrying 17.7mm. Pack for cold and windy rather than for spring. The record: 9.1C nights that feel like 5C, humidity 77 percent and 10.7 hours of sun.

Baku's forum calls May the best month for exactly the reason you'd expect — warm without summer's real heat, sunny days increasing through the month. Regulars flag the city's wind as the real variable: Baku is known for it locally, so a light jacket for evenings is standard advice even in spring.

Regulars are direct that the sun is genuinely hot midday, water and shade a real necessity for anyone out walking, but the city's own nickname - city of winds - keeps the air moving enough that it rarely feels as brutal as the raw temperature alone would suggest. Our row backs the hot, breezy read, 30.6C reading as a hot 32C, over 20C nights, with rain essentially absent, 3.6mm across under a day, and a real 30.1 kph wind. Regulars are consistent this counts as full beach season along the Caspian, water warm enough to swim, though evenings do cool down quickly once the sun drops, brisk enough that a light layer is worth having on hand. The record: humidity 69 percent, 12.9 hours of sun and AQI 52.

Early September here is summer without the heat and regulars date the change to about the 20th, after which the temperature falls and the rains start. Our row averages 27.7C over 18.2C with just 19.6mm of rain across 3.3 days. The other number is the one the city is named for: 31.1 kph, among the windiest months in this collection for a city, and the boards warn it can get up suddenly at any time of year, autumn especially. That wind is why 27.7C reads as 28C by day and an 18.2C night feels like 16C. The Caspian beaches open up in warm spells, with the caveat that the water is not clean. The record: humidity 70 percent, 10.1 hours of sun and AQI 62.

Regulars give October as 15 to 20C and windy, a little cooler and wetter than September and still one of the two best autumn months. The wind is the part they insist on: this place is called the City of Winds, autumn is when it blows hardest, and it makes the air feel considerably colder than the reading. Our row measures it at 32.1 kph against 20.9C days that feel like 19C and 13C nights that feel like 10C, which is the gap they are describing. The turn comes around the 20th of September, after which temperatures fall and the rains start. Our 27.5mm across 5.5 days is modest. The record: humidity 75 percent, 8.3 hours of sun and AQI 44.

Baku forum regulars are candid that November isn't the city's month: a bit cold, not so cold as in winter, windy and rainy, with one poster blunter still — it would be pretty cold in November, and with the rains, it may worsen. The wind is the part locals flag hardest, consistent with Baku's reputation as the “City of Winds.” Mountain day trips fare worse than the capital itself: regions like Gabala and Shahdagh run more cold and “rainy and so foggy that you can enjoy the view” becomes a genuine punchline rather than a promise. The upside regulars name without much enthusiasm: real off-season hotel rates and thin crowds. Spring and early autumn get recommended instead for anyone with flexible dates. Our record: 14.8°C days, 11.1°C nights, 7.6 rain days and a 34.7kph wind — cool and genuinely windy, matching the “not the city's month” read closely.
