diving
We dove two of Aqaba's sunken military tanks in a single morning, sites we'd read were unique to this stretch of the Red Sea, and the visibility was good enough that we could see the wrecks clearly from well above them on descent. The dive center picked us up right from our hotel and had every piece of rental gear clean and properly checked before we boarded the boat, which set the tone for a genuinely well-organized couple of days. Macro life turned out to be Aqaba's real strength, we spotted more nudibranchs and pipefish here than anywhere else on the trip. A post-dive barbecue lunch on the boat capped off both days perfectly.
亚喀巴的旅人笔记
去过的人怎么说——先是全年通用的笔记,再逐月来看。
Regulars are specific Aqaba runs a genuine 6 to 8 degrees Celsius warmer than most of the rest of Jordan this month, a real draw for visitors escaping colder weather elsewhere in the country or back home. Our row backs that mild, genuinely dry read, 23.9C over 11.9C nights feeling 11C, with rain light at 7.8mm across 1.4 days and humidity at 54 percent. Regulars are consistent the sea itself stays genuinely cold despite the pleasant air, swimming a matter of personal tolerance rather than a given even on a warm, sunny afternoon. This remains one of the better months overall for exploring the town and nearby sites without the summer's heat. The sea sits at 21.4C. The record: 9.9 hours of sun, a 12.8 kph wind and AQI 44.
The board splits on March here and the split is instructive. One side says Aqaba runs five degrees or more above the rest of Jordan and that March is comfortably warm; the other says it was too cold for the beach. The reconciliation they offer is wind rather than temperature: a strong draught comes down Wadi Araba from the north, which makes lying on the sand unpleasant even on a warm day, and snorkelling is best done in a wetsuit. Our row supports both readings - 27.3C air that feels like 25C, a 21.4C sea, and nights down at 15.3C at 46 percent humidity. Rain is negligible at 8.5mm across 1.6 days. The record: 10.8 hours of sun, a 14.2 kph average wind and AQI 49.
Forum posters describe April in Aqaba as warm and sunny, with daily lows and highs commonly cited around 17-31C, and posters consistently note Aqaba runs noticeably warmer than the rest of Jordan year-round thanks to its low-elevation, Red Sea coastal setting. Sea temperatures in April are reported around 22C - pleasant for some, but posters note it can still feel on the cool side for swimming this early in the season compared to peak summer. Posters name April-May as the best overall window to visit Jordan generally: comfortably warm without tipping into full summer heat, with any rain (heavier further north than in the arid south around Aqaba) typically tapering off as the month goes on.
April and May are high season in Aqaba for a reason that has nothing to do with the air: this is when the dive centres fill up, and regulars warn that guides can be fully booked on the day, so arrange it before you travel or on your first day rather than the morning you want to go. The Red Sea here stays calm and clear year-round, and our row's 23.6C water is the cool, comfortable side of it - which matters, because above the surface May is already 36.6C. What makes that bearable is the desert behind the town: humidity sits at 34 percent, so the heat is dry rather than heavy, and our feels-like figure does not exceed the thermometer. Rain is 0.6mm across 0.1 days. The record: 23C nights, 12.6 hours of sun, a 15.7 kph wind and AQI 60.
Regulars are consistent that this town runs meaningfully hotter and more humid than the rest of Jordan, roughly ten degrees Fahrenheit above the national average, and specifically call it out as the one place in the country where the heat carries real humidity rather than the dry desert warmth found elsewhere. Our row backs the extreme heat directly, 38.2C reading as a real 38C, over 25.6C nights, with rain essentially absent, 0.1mm and zero rainy days, and humidity at 50 percent - notably damp for a Red Sea desert location. Regulars visiting Petra and Amman the same trip describe those inland stops as comfortable while Aqaba alone felt oppressive for even a single overnight stay. The sea offers real relief at a warm 27.5C. The record: 11.2 hours of sun, a 16.1 kph wind and AQI 53.
Aqaba's forum rates October among the best times to visit Jordan — sunny and warm without summer's extremes, though Aqaba itself typically runs noticeably hotter than the rest of the country given its Red Sea coastal desert setting. Regulars recommend light cotton and linen clothing for the day, with a layer for evenings once the temperature drops after sunset.
November in Aqaba is variable - regulars describe the end of the month as anything from cool to warm - but the water is the constant, sitting near 77F for most of the year, and the answer to whether you can still swim and dive is yes. What makes the diving here unusual is the geography: almost no waves, clear water, and reef a metre or two off the beach rather than a boat ride away. The local caveat is the wind down Wadi Araba, which blows year-round and turns genuinely cold as winter comes on, emptying the waterfront even on a mild day. The record: 28.6C days, 17.7C nights, humidity 53 percent, effectively no precipitation days, 9.5 hours of sun and a 25.4C Red Sea.
