Regulars put August in perspective rather than dismissing it: the city is seldom above 35C and it does cool at night, but between one and five in the afternoon there is no escape outdoors that is not air conditioned. The exception they all name is the terral, the hot wind that comes down off the inland hills - one of them describes it as somebody switching on a giant hair dryer - which lifts the temperature well past normal for a few days at a time. Nerja's forum describes January as genuinely 'pot luck' - some stretches bring sunny days warm enough for a t-shirt, others turn grey and rainy, and wind is the deciding factor more than anything else. The one constant posters agreed on: once the sun starts going down in the mid-afternoon, the temperature drops fast, so a warm coat for evenings is non-negotiable even after a mild day. Nerja stays a year-round resort with most things open, though a handful of restaurants close until mid-February.

Forum posters call July genuinely great beach weather - some even rate it slightly more comfortable than August - with sun temperatures still in the 80sF and evenings pleasant enough to sit outside at 11pm around 25C. The real complaint isn't the heat but the crowds: July and August bring both British/Irish tourists and Spanish domestic holidaymakers, making the town center (Calle Almirante Ferrandiz, Puerta Del Mar) and Burriana beach specifically genuinely packed. Posters recommend getting to the beach early to grab a spot, avoiding heavy midday walking, and booking restaurants ahead if there's a specific place in mind.
