Niagara Falls forum threads describe January as genuinely cold, with a typical high cited around -0.4C but posters warning the second and third weeks of the month can bring the coldest stretch of the year, with real potential for -10 to -15C. The constant mist and wind generated by the falls themselves were flagged as making it feel colder still, and when conditions align that mist freezes into thick, dramatic ice coating everything nearby - a genuinely striking sight posters called worth the cold. Several attractions close for the season, including the Maid of the Mist boat tour, though the Aquarium and visitor center stay open year-round.
