The two claims reconcile in how the rain arrives — short, sharp autumn showers rather than long drizzly spells, so a lot of water on not many days. Late October is noticeably less comfortable for swimming than the first half.

Regulars describe a genuine split within the month - the beginning still spring-like, cool evenings and a real chance of rain, while the back half turns properly summery, warmer evenings and rain becoming a rare event by the final week.
