Visum og innreise

A traveler's account of Caye Caulker manages expectations around the island's "Go Slow" motto: there's no real beach here, just brief strips of sand between docks, so the actual draw is the relaxed pace, colorful wooden buildings, and easy access to snorkeling and diving on the nearby Belize Barrier Reef. Her advice was not to rush the visit, recommending at least five nights and ideally a full week, with December through April as the dry season worth planning a trip around if timing allows.

Reisendes notater om Caye Caulker

Hva folk som har vært der, sier om stedet — notatene som gjelder hele året først, så måned for måned.

January is the coolest month here and regulars describe the mechanism rather than the average: from December to March a cold front crosses every ten to fourteen days and lasts a day or two, bringing wind, cloud and sometimes rain - and sometimes no rain at all. What it does bring is wind, which is the part that spoils a snorkelling day. Our row fits: 78mm across 15.4 days is five millimetres a time, and all-day rain is as rare as they say. Days reach 27.4C and feel like 31C at 84 percent humidity; nights fall to 22.4C, or lower behind a front. The sea is 26.7C. The record: 9.4 hours of sun, a 17.3 kph wind and AQI 41.

February is inside Caye Caulker's busy stretch, January to April, and the forum's reassurance is about forecasts rather than weather: a late-February visitor whose app promised rain nearly every day got about thirty seconds of it. Our row says the same thing in figures - 13.5 precipitation days carrying 42.9mm between them. Seaweed is the real variable and it is wind-driven: in winter a northerly often pushes it back out to sea, and how much lands varies day to day and property to property, because the clearing is done by whoever owns the frontage. Sargassum season proper starts mid-February to mid-March, lightly at first. The record: 28.1C days that feel like 32C, 23.2C nights, 10.1 hours of sun and a 26.6C sea.

Caye Caulker's forum calls March part of the driest, most reliable stretch of the year — regulars note forecasts often show rain that doesn't fully materialise, with actual showers usually brief rather than washing out the day. Wind stays moderate too, generally 10-12 mph, before picking up into stronger gusts from April onward.

April is dry on Caye Caulker - our row's 39.2mm across 8.8 days is the tail of the dry season, with the wet season not starting until June and even then falling mostly overnight - and it is the end of the busy January-to-April stretch. Two things regulars want you to know. April, May and June are the months most likely to bring gusts over 20 mph, against an average nearer 10 to 12. And sargassum, which starts arriving in small irregular amounts in late February, peaks from April through June; how much lands depends almost entirely on the strength and direction of the wind, which is why a north wind in winter blows it back out to sea and the spring pattern does not. The record: 30.3C days that feel like 36C, 25.4C nights, 11.6 hours of sun and a 28C sea.

Caye Caulker-forum threads on May weather call it hot and humid, high 20s to low 30s Celsius with humidity high enough to make it feel warmer than the number alone suggests. Precipitation totals are described as low for the month, but posters note a few showers are still likely, usually overnight, early morning, or a brief afternoon burst rather than a washed-out day. May specifically marks the tail end of the low-rain season, the last stretch before the wetter pattern that starts in June takes over. Wind is called a non-issue this month, one less thing to plan around. The record: 31.2C days feeling like a sticky 37C, 26.5C nights, 73mm across 14.5 days, an 82 percent humidity, a 29.4C sea and 11.4 hours of sun.

Caye Caulker-forum threads on July weather describe a real gap between the forecast and lived experience: apps often show rain and storms every single day of the month, but posters consistently report that isn't what actually happens on the ground. The more typical pattern is a single rain event roughly once a week, usually landing in the very early morning hours and clearing up well before 9am, leaving the rest of the day sunny and calm. Some visitors describe entire stretches with barely any rain at all, calling it some of the year's most beautiful weather; others get the more standard hot-and-humid version with an occasional storm. All-day rain is described as genuinely rare rather than typical. Heat and humidity both run high regardless of the rain pattern, the more consistent discomfort across every account. The record: 30.7C days feeling like a punishing 37C, 26.4C nights, a notably high 144mm across 24.6 days, 85 percent humidity, a 30C sea and 11.2 hours of sun.

Forum posters are direct that September sits within Belize's wet and hurricane season, with one of the higher rainfall totals of the year, though actual year-to-year experience varies. Posters consistently describe rain here as coming mostly overnight or as a brief afternoon shower, with days staying sunny and clear rather than washed out - one detailed week-long September stay reported rain only at night or early morning, with nighttime thunderstorms over the ocean described as a genuine visual highlight rather than a nuisance. Posters are consistent that despite hurricane-season nerves, September is actually one of the more beautiful times of year here, with real crowd relief given how much quieter the island runs, though posters note some businesses do close for the season.

Caye Caulker-forum threads on November weather are consistent that it's technically inside the rainy season but rarely feels like it day to day: rain doesn't fall every day or all day, arriving instead as a brief shower, often overnight, so mornings tend to stay clear and sunny. Posters call the month variable but mainly sunny overall, and the sea itself stays calm and warm, genuinely comfortable for swimming even with rain technically on the books. The general consensus is not to overthink November's rainy-season label - the actual lived experience most visitors report is closer to a normal tropical month with an occasional wet interruption than a washout. The record: 28.7C days feeling like a sticky 34C, 23.6C nights, a notably high 192mm across 19.6 days, 86 percent humidity, a 28.4C sea and 9.2 hours of sun - wetter by the numbers than the forum's easygoing framing suggests.
