Forum posters consistently name November through April as the best season for Xishuangbanna, with January bringing pleasant daytime temperatures commonly cited around 24-25C under blue skies - genuinely warmer than most of the rest of Yunnan and China at the same time of year, a real draw for anyone escaping harsher winter conditions elsewhere in the country. Posters describe mornings and evenings as noticeably cooler and chilly, with short sleeves comfortable by day but a light jacket needed once the sun drops. Posters consistently recommend layering to cover both ends of that daily swing rather than packing for either extreme alone.
Yunnan's forum is clear that Xishuangbanna, where Jinghong sits, is the genuine tropical outlier in the province - hot and humid in a way Kunming, Dali and Lijiang further north and at higher elevation simply aren't.
