Gudauri-forum threads on a January trip to Georgia describe the ski season as genuinely underway by this point, most years starting around Christmas though posters call the exact opening date dependent on how much has fallen by then. Regulars describe January and February together as the strongest stretch for snow activities, skiing and snowmobiling both named as standing draws. Posters call Gudauri noticeably colder than lower resorts like Bakuriani given its higher elevation, snow here also melting later into spring. Regulars recommend a car with winter tires or four-wheel drive for the mountain road, heavy snowfall capable of closing access during a serious system. Posters describe recent winters as genuinely variable, some running drier than the historical norm. Regulars recommend checking current road and snow conditions before a winter mountain drive. The record: -4.5C days feeling like -9C, -11.9C nights, a notably high 49.7cm of fresh accumulation and 77 percent humidity.

February is the middle of the Georgian ski season, and Gudauri's claim over Bakuriani is height: it sits higher, so it holds snow longer, with the season running to about 15 April. The road is the thing to ask about rather than the snow. Gudauri is 120km north of Tbilisi on the Greater Caucasus range, the route is cleared regularly as far as the resort, and day trips from the city work when it is clear - but the stretch beyond, on towards Kazbegi, is where slides close things. The season normally opens after Christmas and occasionally earlier, depending entirely on the year. The record: -3.3C days that feel like -7C, -10.9C nights, 44.3cm of snow, 7.9 precipitation days and 8.2 hours of sun.

Gudauri's forum calls March the pick of the ski season — milder than the depths of winter but with snow cover still holding up well, right before the resort typically closes at the end of the month. Regulars caution that Gudauri isn't fully snow-sure, though, and the amount on the ground can vary a lot from one year to the next.

Gudauri-forum threads on an April visit describe the season as genuinely running December through April, posters naming mid-April as the real sweet spot before things wind down. Regulars call resorts genuinely closing officially around mid-April, several posters naming cable cars and skiing as stopping then even as snow bikes keep running in some areas into late April. Posters call New Gudauri genuinely the more comfortable base, several regulars naming its modern infrastructure and closer hotels as real advantages over the older part of town. Regulars call early April genuinely still good for snow, several threads naming far fewer tourists and lower prices than peak season as the tradeoff worth making. Posters recommend timing a trip for mid-month if skiing is the priority, several regulars calling this standard given how quickly things close after. The record: 5.1C days, -2.1C nights, an extraordinarily high 104.2mm across nearly 14 days and 81 percent humidity.

Gudauri-forum threads on a May visit call the resort a winter-first destination, posters describing the skiing season as closed by April and May generally too early for reliable mountain weather. Regulars call real accumulation still visible and touchable at elevation in May, though conditions here are no longer suitable for the lifts or slopes themselves. Posters recommend nearby Kazbegi as a stronger May alternative, several regulars redirecting May travelers there instead of Gudauri specifically. Regulars call hotels and restaurants in Gudauri itself largely closed through the summer months, a real contrast with Stepantsminda which stays open and active. Posters recommend checking accommodation status directly before booking a May stay in Gudauri, several visitors reporting having an entire hotel to themselves with the on-site restaurant closed. The record: 9.9C days feeling like 8C, 2.4C nights, an extraordinarily high 143.5mm across nearly 19 days and 76 percent humidity.

Gudauri-forum threads asking whether real winter cover survives into July get a consistent answer: white patches remain visible on the highest peaks but anything at the resort's elevation has long melted out. Regulars call the resort largely dormant in summer, unlike many European mountain towns the cafes and shops mostly shutting down once the lifts stop turning. Posters recommend nearby Kazbegi or Stepantsminda instead for real summer activity, hiking and mountain scenery both better supported there. Regulars call the drive up still worthwhile for the views alone even with the resort quiet. Posters recommend real layers regardless of season, the exposed ridge running noticeably cooler and windier than the valley towns below. Regulars call checking which businesses are open before planning a stay, summer services here considerably reduced from winter. The record: 18.8C days feeling like 19C, 10.4C nights, an extraordinarily high 99.4mm across nearly 17 days and 75 percent humidity.

Gudauri-forum threads on summer visits are direct this is fundamentally a winter resort, restaurants and lift-served activities largely closed once the season ends, and posters call it genuinely quiet for anyone expecting a bustling summer scene. Regulars call the altitude a real advantage regardless of the closures, comfortably cool compared to the punishing thirty-plus-degree lowland Georgian cities in August. Posters recommend Kazbegi, a short drive further along the same road, as the stronger summer base, with hiking, horseback riding and the Gergeti Trinity Church all drawing real crowds Gudauri itself lacks this time of year. Regulars call passing through worthwhile for the dramatic Jvari Pass views even without stopping overnight. Layers for a genuine mountain chill are standing advice despite the August date. The record: 19.8C days feeling like 19C, 10.8C nights, 67 percent humidity and 12.9 hours of daylight.

Forum posters describe September in Gudauri as stunning, with everything still green and no snow at this elevation yet - genuinely good weather that's neither too hot nor too cold. Posters describe the Georgian mountains as really only having two seasons, winter (lasting into April) and a long spring-like stretch from May through October, placing September squarely within that milder window with daytime temperatures commonly 15-25C. Posters are consistent that nights still turn genuinely cold at this elevation, commonly down to 10-15C, so warm layers, long pants and proper footwear remain necessary for anyone staying overnight in the mountains. Posters generally recommend September for hiking and exploring the nearby villages around Gudauri and Kazbegi.
