Bali-forum threads on January weather (Canggu specifically flagged in local-flooding discussions) describe the peak of the wet season - heavier, more frequent rain than the shoulder months, December and January the two wettest. Experiences swing widely: some visitors log an unbroken run of rainy days, others get a brief afternoon or overnight downpour followed by hours of genuine sun. One account logged just two hours of rain across eighteen days spanning a December-January stay. Canggu gets a specific mention for street flooding after the heaviest storms and beach-side rubbish washing up more often. Despite the wet-season label, posters say cafes, surf breaks and bars all stay open. The record: 30.8C days feeling like a sticky 37C, 25.1C nights, a notably high 258mm across nearly 28 days, 86 percent humidity, a 29C sea and 9.2 hours of sun - the wettest entry on Canggu's whole calendar, backing the flooding reports directly.

Forum posters describe February as sitting right in the middle of Bali's wet season, with hot, humid conditions and real day-to-day rain, though posters are consistent this doesn't mean an inundation - showers typically come as downpours lasting an hour or two rather than settling in all day. One regular February visitor over five years reported only light nighttime rain each time, with daily sunshine averaging around six hours even in the wettest month. Posters flag Canggu specifically as decent for surfing in February, with light winds and some good sessions reported, though beaches along this stretch (Kuta, Legian, Seminyak, Canggu) can see more rubbish wash up during the rainy season. Posters generally describe Bali as workable essentially year-round, with February's rain a real but manageable factor rather than a reason to avoid the month.

May opens the dry season here and regulars describe the shape of it rather than the total: overcast until about half past eight then sunny, with rain overnight, at breakfast, or as a downpour about four that has cleared by evening - and on this coast the showers often last five or ten minutes. Our 93.9mm across 15 days is that pattern, not a wet month, though 85 percent humidity turns 30.4C into a felt 36C. The surf reason for coming is the same season: the west side of the island works while the dry-season winds hold. The sea is 28.6C and nights stay at 25.3C. The record: 10.6 hours of sun, a 16.6 kph wind and AQI 48.

June is Bali's dry season and one of the months regulars recommend outright - clear skies, lower humidity, days around 27 to 30C. What makes Canggu specifically a June destination is the swell: the dry months from May to October are when the island's western side produces its best waves. The cost is the wind, because Canggu gets strong trade winds through June and July, which our row puts at 18.1 kph. Two caveats travel with every Bali note: the island is a stack of microclimates where it can pour in one spot and be clear a few hundred metres away, and a wet June does happen. Our row's 65.4mm across 13 days is the short-shower version. The record: 29.6C days that feel like 34C, 24.6C nights and a 28.3C sea.

July is peak in every sense on Bali's south coast: dry season, European school holidays, Australians escaping winter and the year's best surf all arriving at once. Canggu is where the crowd has moved - the forum's own note is that Kuta is now the quieter end of the Legian, Seminyak and Canggu strip and the action has gone north - and the practical cost is traffic, with one July visitor putting the airport run at an hour. Book accommodation as early as you can. The rain reads odder than the reputation: 11 precipitation days carrying only 53.5mm, at 84 percent humidity, against a 28.8C day that feels like 33C. The record: 24.2C nights, 10.8 hours of sun and a 27.7C sea.

Canggu's forum calls August peak dry season but not necessarily wall-to-wall sunshine — one visitor's four-day stretch was a genuine mix of cloudy, rainy and sunny spells. It's also reliably windy this time of year, which regulars say is exactly what makes the surf so consistently good, with lineups getting crowded to match.

Bali-forum threads on September call it a genuinely good surf and beach month: consistent offshore wind and reliable reef breaks through the May-to-September window that make it a favorite among surfers specifically, June and September singled out for combining good conditions with thinner crowds. The general weather read is mostly settled with little precipitation, and when a shower does show up it tends to land in the evening or overnight as a short, sharp downpour rather than an all-day event. Posters are quick to add that Bali's microclimates mean conditions vary block to block, inland running wetter than the coast as a rule. The record: 29.7C days feeling like a sticky 34C, 24C nights, 77mm across 11.1 days, an 86 percent humidity, a 27.8C sea and 11 hours of sun.

Bali-forum threads on December weather (Canggu specifically flagged in beach-condition threads) are consistent that the wet season is genuinely underway, but outcomes vary wildly by trip: one detailed account logged just about two hours of rain total across three weeks spanning mid-December into early January, surfing and swimming at Canggu and nearby beaches without any real weather problem. Other posters describe a more typical wet-season stretch of downpours and cloudy stretches. Bali's microclimates mean a rainy day in Ubud can be a clear one in Canggu or Sanur, so conditions genuinely differ block to block. The recurring practical warning: wet-season currents wash rubbish onto some beaches, worth checking locally. Crowds and traffic climb steadily from mid-December regardless of the weather. The record: 30.9C days feeling like a punishing 37C, 25.3C nights, a notably high 270mm across 28 days, 86 percent humidity, a 29.8C sea and 9.7 hours of sun.
