We ended up spending a full day and a half just lazing around Burgas, strolling the five-kilometer Sea Garden and swimming in waves that were noticeably higher than the calmer beaches further south. The Archaeological Museum was a good rainy-afternoon detour, with Thracian and Roman artifacts we hadn't expected from a beach town. Compared to smaller Bulgarian coastal towns we'd passed through, Burgas had far more English speakers and working card machines, which made day-to-day logistics easier. We picked June specifically for the quieter beaches and mild weather before the peak summer crowds arrived.
