Note dei viaggiatori su Lussemburgo

Cosa dice chi c'è stato: prima le note valide tutto l'anno, poi mese per mese.

Luxembourg enjoys a temperate oceanic climate, with the hills of the Ardennes providing some extra protection against the influences of the Atlantic. The best, or at least the sunniest time to go is May to August, although with a bit of luck you'll enjoy mild weather in April and September too. The warm months of July-August are high-season in the country, with outdoor festivals all around, but Spring comes with many flowers and Autumn comes with wine-making opportunities in the Moselle valley area. Despite the small size of the country, there are measurable differences in overall temperature, with the north being generally a few degrees colder and receiving serious packs of snow in winter. Although comparatively mild for this part of Europe, winters are on the cold side for travels, with average temperatures around +2 °C in January and occasional low points of -15 °C at night.…

Luxembourg City forum threads describe January as genuinely cold and grey, with some combination of rain, snow, ice or fog likely on any given day and weak winter sun the best-case outcome. When snow does fall, posters said it's typically wet rather than heavy and doesn't tend to stick around long in the city itself, though icy streets underfoot were flagged as a more consistent concern than snow accumulation. One practical planning note repeated across threads: a number of tourist attractions run reduced hours or close entirely for January and February, so checking opening days ahead of a visit was the standard advice rather than assuming everything stays open through the low season.

Luxembourg City forum regulars won't commit to a single forecast for March: “the most probable weather...is cold and wet, though it could be sunny and almost warm, or it could be really cold with sleet or snow and ice on the ground.” The comparison offered for calibration is England's weather — “some rainy days, some dry days, perhaps even some sunny days, but no freezing cold and no picnic weather.” Snow risk is genuinely low by late March, about a 1% chance, though “winter tyres are compulsory...whenever conditions are wintry.” Most attractions stay open through the month, and walking gets noticeably easier as it wears on. Our record: 9.3°C days, 1°C nights, 13 rain days and a 20.1kph wind that does real work against the “cold and wet” read — with 2cm of snow across the month, consistent with “could” rather than “will.”

Regulars planning even a short two-day visit lean on the long daylight this month gives them to cram in sightseeing and evening plans - genuinely the year's longest days, over 16 hours between sunrise and sunset. Our row backs the mild, pleasant read, 22.8C over 12.6C nights, with 69.7mm of rain across 10.1 days. Regulars call this a genuinely great month to visit, warm enough for outdoor exploring without summer's later heat, with the extra daylight hours making a packed itinerary more realistic than in shorter-day months. The record: humidity 72 percent, 11.7 hours of sun, a 15.7 kph wind and AQI 49.

Regulars pitch this month by comparison rather than by number: pack for what you would wear at home in London, maybe a touch lighter for walking, since the climate does not differ much from the UK's, if a little less rainy. Our row supports the comparison at 24C over 13.6C, with 74.8mm across 8.7 days at 68.8 percent humidity - warm without being demanding. Their standing advice is layers: light summer clothes for the day, a set for cooler spells, closed shoes that can take a shower, and something for the evening when temperatures drop back. The city itself rewards a stroll through its parks and the underground Petrusse Casemates whatever the sky is doing. The record: 11.5 hours of sun, a 15.7 kph wind and AQI 42.

August in Luxembourg City is the month the city empties. A great many people are away or working from home, so the streets are quiet and there is parking to be had - and a good number of restaurants shut for the whole month or most of it, because their expense-account custom has gone with them. The 15th is a public holiday on top, which closes more. The weather is mild rather than hot, and the country's own draw this month is outdoors: the Mullerthal around Echternach for walking and cycling, and the Ardennes around Wiltz in the north. The record: 23.9C days that feel like 23C, 13.9C nights, 7.8 precipitation days carrying 51.4mm and 10.8 hours of sun.

September in Luxembourg is a coin-toss between seasons — the forum's own phrasing is that some years it is still summer and some it is already autumn — but the consensus favours it over October, when the odds of rain and fog climb. Days sit near 19°C, cooling to about 10 at night. It is too early for real autumn colour: locals put the good stretch from around mid-September through early November, with the lazy foggy mornings and colour in midday sun arriving later than the calendar suggests. Regulars pair the trip with the Belgian Ardennes and the German Eifel.

Asked to choose between September and October, regulars answer with what you came for: September is warmer but too early for colour, and the golden weeks here come at the end of October into November, with lazy foggy mornings and the leaves lit at midday. They add the honest caveat that high wind can strip it overnight. Our row explains the mornings - 84 percent humidity and only 5.5 hours of sun a day - under 13.9C afternoons that read as 12C and 7C nights that read as 5C. Rain is 79.1mm across 10.9 days. This is a walking month for the valley and the Mullerthal rather than a terrace one. The record: a 17.8 kph wind and AQI 34.
