Posters note snow becomes a real possibility in mountainous spots like Yudanaka onsen from late November onward, though one visitor's late-November trip found earlier snow had already melted by the time they arrived, and posters caution the main ski season doesn't really get going in Nagano until early December. Conditions vary sharply with elevation though: up in the mountains around Kamikochi, snow can still linger into early May before the valley turns lush green by month's end, with snowy peaks visible in the distance even in the warmer weeks.
