April is sakura month here - peak is usually from mid-April - and the Nara forum's advice is mostly about beating the day-trippers who come out from Kyoto and Osaka. Todaiji opens at 7:30 in April and stays comparatively quiet until 9 or 10, which is the argument for staying the night rather than arriving mid-morning.
