Bon à savoir avant de partir à Đà Nẵng

practical

My Khe Beach stretched further than we expected, several kilometers of paved walking path along the sand, and we stuck close to shore after a local warned us about currents pulling stronger than they look further out. We visited Marble Mountains early in the morning specifically to dodge the heat, which paid off since the climb up the stone steps to the pagodas was already tough enough without direct midday sun. Han Market gave us the best cheap food of the whole trip, while grilled seafood from vendors right along the beach became our regular dinner. We left valuables at the hotel every time we went to the beach after reading enough warnings about unattended bags.

Notes de voyageurs sur Đà Nẵng

Ce qu’en disent celles et ceux qui y sont allés — d’abord les notes valables toute l’année, puis mois par mois.

Da Nang-forum threads on January weather describe it as the start of the low-rain season, but posters are candid the transition isn't instant - real rainy days are still common, and one visitor reported needing long trousers, long sleeves and a jacket on several days rather than beach clothes. The sea itself is called too cold for a comfortable swim this early in the year, a genuine surprise for anyone picturing tropical Vietnam. Temperatures overall stay mild and pleasant rather than either hot or cold, comfortable for sightseeing even if the beach isn't fully in play. Posters recommend heading further south along the coast for anyone who specifically wants guaranteed warm beach weather this month, treating Da Nang itself as more of a sightseeing base in January. The record: 25.6C days feeling like 28C, 19.8C nights, a notably high 181mm across 20 days, 86 percent humidity, a 23.1C sea and 6.8 hours of sun.

Da Nang's forum rates March as the real start of the dry season — sunny, warm, noticeably less rain than the months just before it. Regulars still flag that a weakening cold front can occasionally reach into March from the north, so a light jacket for an unlucky cooler day is worth packing regardless.

"April - is it really dry season?" is a real thread title on the Da Nang forum, and the answer regulars give is yes with an asterisk: central Vietnam's dry months run from about April to August with very little falling, but the tropics do not sign contracts and a sudden downpour is still possible. February to May is the window they recommend, and April is the last comfortable month before the heat and humidity of the true summer take over. For the beach the advice is about the clock rather than the calendar - My Khe early or at sunset, out of the direct sun, when the light on the water is the point. The record: 31.6C days that feel like 37C, 24.1C nights, 7.7 precipitation days carrying 79.4mm, humidity 84 percent, a 26.8C sea, AQI 93.

May in Da Nang is hot and getting hotter - regulars give a 25 to 31C band and note it is a clear step up from April, with the reassurance that it is still not June or August. Our row runs warmer than their band at 34.1C, and once the 83 percent humidity is counted it reads as 41C, which is the figure to plan the middle of the day around. What May buys you is the water: the sea reaches about 28C, its warmest of the first half of the year, our row saying 28.7C, and My Khe and Non Nuoc are the beaches they name, the latter out towards the Marble Mountains halfway to Hoi An. The month is not dry, at 109mm across 16.1 days. The record: 25.6C nights, 10.8 hours of sun and AQI 88.

Regulars are direct that this counts as genuinely hot, humid summer weather, with early morning and late afternoon named as the real windows for being outdoors and midday better spent resting or indoors. Our row backs that brutally hot, humid read, 36C reading as a scorching 44C, over 26.4C nights, with 102.5mm of rain across 15 days and humidity at 78 percent. Regulars are consistent that humidity specifically tends to peak overnight rather than during the day, a real factor for anyone choosing accommodation without reliable air conditioning. Slowing the pace, staying hydrated and expecting an afternoon shower most days are the standard local advice for this month. The sea sits at a bath-warm 31.1C. The record: 11 hours of sun, an 11.6 kph wind and AQI 102.

Forum posters call September the start of central Vietnam's rainy season and genuinely unpredictable - some visitors get sunny mornings with rain only in the afternoon or evening, others report an entirely sunny week with no rain at all, and there's no reliable consistency to bank on. Typhoons themselves are more typically an October risk than September, though posters recommend having a backup plan regardless and checking the forecast closely in the week or two before arrival. Earlier in September is generally favored over later in the month. Rain gear is standard advice, but posters are clear the conditions stay manageable rather than trip-ruining for most visitors.

Da Nang-forum threads asking whether to avoid November over heavy rain get a genuinely mixed answer - this does sit at the peak of the wet season locally, and posters are direct that a typhoon tracking through the central coast is a real possibility this time of year, sometimes serious enough to disrupt a whole trip. That said, several regulars report entire November stretches with little to no rain, sunshine holding for days at a time, purely down to which specific week a visit lands on. The standing advice across threads is flexibility - build slack into any itinerary, watch the tropical outlook in the week before travel, and treat a clear day as a bonus rather than an expectation. Beach time on My Khe is a genuine gamble this month either way. The record: an extraordinarily high 495mm across over 23 days, 28.7C days feeling like a punishing 32C, 22.9C nights, a 27.8C sea and 87 percent humidity.
