Forum posters cite typical March temperatures in Ohrid around 17C, with occasional rainy days, though showers usually run just a couple of hours before clearing. Posters recommend an umbrella, walking boots and layered clothing as the standard March packing list. Posters note hiking trails in the surrounding mountains should be expected to carry snow at this point in the year, though one traveler's March visit found snow limited to the mountain tops themselves rather than lower trails. Posters are consistent that the Old Town and Old Bazaar stay fully open with plenty of restaurants and bars catering to locals, and that sightseeing in March is actually more comfortable than the summer heat. Posters generally rate March as cool, occasionally wet but fully workable for a Ohrid visit, proper layers and rain gear the main preparation.
September in Ohrid is the forum's value month: warm and quiet, with prices dropping around mid-September by at least 30% once the late-June-to-August high season ends. Days average 24°C — posters report 30 in a good year — staying above 20 into the evening, though a light jacket or cardigan earns its place after dark. The lake is the variable: some years it holds around 26°C into mid-September and swimming is fine, other years it sits in the low 20s and late September is too cold for most. Early September is the safer half if the water matters.
