December is the dry season here, and the thing the board explains that no column can is wind direction. The northeast wind of the dry months, roughly November to May, leaves the west coast of the island calm and clear - which is where the sunsets are, and where they tell you to stay in December. Our wind column reads 25.8 kph, so it is a real wind, simply blowing off the land on that side. The rain has largely gone, 59.1mm across 10 days and mostly at night. On temperature our row runs warmer than their recollection: they say 25 to 27C, we read 30.8C reading as 34C at 71.8 percent humidity, over 23.6C nights, with a 29.4C sea. Koh Rong's forum describes August as a genuine mixed bag - a decent mixture of sun and rain, with some stretches going several days rain-free and others turning genuinely miserable. One island worker described 15 straight days where it rained almost around the clock, which posters treated as an extreme outlier rather than typical. When rain does hit, it's usually a heavy hour-to-90-minute burst at night, early morning or mid-afternoon, and rough seas can cancel boat trips on the worst days. Opinions on visiting are genuinely split - some steer clear of Koh Rong entirely in August, while one experienced regular was confident sunny days still outnumber wet ones.

Forum posters place February inside Koh Rong's peak season, which runs roughly November through March and brings cool(er), dry conditions relative to the rest of the year - though posters are quick to add that the beaches themselves still run very hot and sunny by day, with water and a hat treated as essential rather than optional. The white-sand beaches and clear, warm water are repeatedly praised, with Sunset Beach singled out for its turquoise water. On the practical side, posters note some visitors worry about choppy seas delaying the ferry crossing even in the dry season, so building a buffer day into ferry-dependent travel plans is a common piece of advice.
