Regulars quote an August average high of 30.7C and a discomfort that comes from the nights rather than the days, with minimums of 25 to 26C - our row reads 30.6C and 25.1C, which is as close as these things get. July and August are the meltemi's peak: it blows from between north-east and north-west, hardest in the afternoon, often dropping at night, and it is what tempers the heat. That makes the island two places. The west is windier with rougher beaches and runs mid to high thirties; the east is calmer, sandier and sheltered, and several degrees hotter for exactly that reason. Kalkan's forum is candid that this stretch of the Turkish Mediterranean coast is genuinely hard to predict in March - a whole week could bring nonstop sunshine or a run of grey, showery days, with reality usually landing somewhere in between. When the sun is out it's genuinely hot for sunbathing, but step into shade and an extra layer becomes necessary fast. Posters specifically noted Kalkan lacks its own weather station and has a real microclimate, so broader regional forecasts often don't match what actually happens on the ground - locals treat March-to-May forecasts as a rough guide at best.

Forum posters call September one of the best months to visit Kalkan - daytime temperatures in the high 20s to low 30sC, evenings staying warm enough for shirt sleeves without needing a jumper, at least through most of the month. By the very end of September into early October, posters note a rooftop restaurant dinner might start wanting a light layer as evenings cool slightly, but daytime conditions stay excellent. The clear draw beyond the weather itself: noticeably fewer crowds than peak summer, with several posters naming September as their personal favorite month to visit specifically for that combination of good weather and thinner crowds.
