Forum posters comparing Turkish cities in March describe a real inland-versus-coastal split, with Cappadocia's high plateau seeing daytime highs as low as -5 to 10C while coastal Antalya reaches around 22C and Istanbul around 17C - Ankara, sitting on Turkey's inland Anatolian plateau at meaningful elevation, should track much closer to the colder Cappadocia end of that range than to the coast. Posters generally describe March as the hardest month to predict for Turkey overall, capable of a full week of cloudy showers or a full week of sunshine with the real outcome usually somewhere in between. Posters generally recommend layered clothing for any inland Turkish city in March, given how much cooler and more changeable conditions run away from the Mediterranean and Aegean coasts.
The Türkiye forum's read on Ankara in September is dry heat by day and chilly at night, and the record is emphatic about both halves: highs near 27°C, lows near 14°C, and rain on fewer than two days across the whole month. That thirteen-degree daily swing is the thing to pack for — layers, plus a light waterproof if the trip also takes in Cappadocia, which regulars describe as behaving much the same way. September is broadly rated the better half of a window that starts going hit-and-miss from the middle of October, when thunderstorms and heavy rain arrive.
