Notas de viajeros sobre Bahías de Huatulco

Lo que cuenta la gente que ha estado allí: primero las notas válidas todo el año y después, mes a mes.

Regulars call January and February about as close to perfect as this coast gets, and the reason they give for January specifically is what it lacks. It does not rain - the wet season holds off until May - and wind is not the problem here that it is on the Caribbean side in the same weeks, which is the common reason people end up comparing the two coasts at all. Locals asked for the best month say January: the fishing is at its best and the whales are about. By mid-March the humidity climbs and the heat turns oppressive for northern visitors, so this is the cool end of the good run. Our row gives 30.9C days against 19.9C nights, an eleven-degree swing that makes the evenings genuinely cool. The record: 27.9mm across 5.1 days, 10.5 hours of sun, a 10.6 kph wind and a 27.5C sea.

Huatulco's forum calls February about as reliable as Mexico's coast gets — one long-time visitor logged years of early-February trips with only a handful of rainy days each time, and regulars rate it the safest bet on the coast for hot, sunny, dry weather. The water stays warm from December through February too, so swimming is comfortable start to finish.

March is prime time in Huatulco - hot and sunny every day, and hot in a way regulars emphasise about the late afternoon, when the humidity can push it further. It is also when the bays are busiest: from about 25 March to 5 April, Crucecita fills with Mexican families on holiday. The water is warm enough for snorkelling and only gets warmer from here. Which bay you use matters more than the date - the south-facing beaches open to the ocean can be rough for swimming, while Las Brisas and the public beach at La Entrega are sheltered and much better. The record: 31.8C days that feel like 36C, 20.6C nights, 3.5 precipitation days carrying 16.9mm, 11 hours of sun and a 27.5C sea.

April sits squarely in the dry season here, and regulars are unambiguous: hot, humid, virtually no rain, hotter than March by most accounts. Our row backs that at 19.5mm across 5.3 days, with 32.5C reading as a real 37C at 69 percent humidity. The one thing worth timing around is not weather but the calendar - the town fills for Easter, and once Easter Sunday passes the vacationing crowd almost disappears as Mexican visitors head back to work, leaving a quieter beach that only gets hotter from there. The sea stays warm and inviting throughout at 28.4C, good for fishing as well as swimming. Nights hold 21.8C. The record: 11.4 hours of sun, a 14.4 kph wind and AQI 45.

Forum posters describe August as squarely within the Pacific coast's wet season, with rain that typically comes and goes quickly - though posters note a full day of steady rain is possible on occasion - and Pacific hurricane season (running into October) a real background factor. Posters describe May through August generally as hot and humid, with rain more commonly falling at night and staying warm rather than cold. Posters report the rainy season actually brings real upsides: lush, green scenery and fewer international visitors, though August itself sees more domestic Mexican vacationers filling the beaches than the quieter months around it. Posters consistently note that while August brings somewhat more rain than July, it rarely interferes with a day's planned activities.

Regulars are specific the landscape stays visibly green here from the rainy season just ending, humidity itself running a touch higher than December even as this counts as many locals' pick for the nicest month of the year. Our row backs that hot, genuinely wet read, 31.1C reading as a scorching 37C, over 21.1C nights feeling 24C, with a substantial 86.3mm of rain across 15 days and humidity at 83 percent. Regulars are consistent the ocean itself runs calmer by this point with hurricane season now over, warm, comfortable days and evenings the common report despite the real remaining rain. Fewer tourists than peak season remains a genuine practical upside. The sea sits at a bath-warm 29.4C. The record: 10.3 hours of sun, an 8.5 kph wind and AQI 25.

Regulars describe mid to late December as all but guaranteed dry: low 90s Fahrenheit by day, low 70s in the evening, usually a breeze and hardly ever rain. Our row matches closely at 30.8C over 20.1C with 19.4mm across 4.4 precipitation days. The breeze is gentler than the reputation, 9.1 kph, which is part of why the humidity tells: 78 percent turns that 30.8C into a felt 36C. Their booking advice is about the calendar rather than the weather - the month gets busier as it goes and Christmas into New Year is the peak, so early to mid December buys the same conditions at lower prices and with fewer people on the bays. The record: 10.3 hours of sun, a 28.2C sea and AQI 25, among the cleanest air here.
