We stayed near Europe Square specifically because it made the rest of the city easy to navigate, walking distance to the Old Town and a short Bolt ride to everywhere else, which showed the fare upfront and was reliably cheap. We went expecting a Mediterranean-style beach and instead found pebbles and unpredictable weather, which took some recalibrating but didn't ruin the trip once we treated Batumi as a food-and-wine city break rather than a beach holiday. The khinkali at one small family restaurant near our hotel were easily the best we had anywhere in Georgia, and we finished nearly every dinner with baklava and ice cream. Visiting in the shoulder season kept prices down and crowds thin.

Notas de viajeros sobre Batumi

Lo que cuenta la gente que ha estado allí: primero las notas válidas todo el año y después, mes a mes.

Batumi-forum threads on winter travel describe the city at well under ten percent of its normal summer activity level in February - restaurants, bars and supermarkets stay open since a real year-round population lives here, but everything tied to the seaside season is shut down entirely. Posters call it genuinely quiet rather than lifeless, with the botanical garden and nearby Gonio Fortress singled out as nearly empty and pleasant to explore without a tour bus in sight. The standing advice: waterproof clothing and sturdy shoes matter more than a heavy coat, since damp, overcast conditions off the Black Sea are the norm rather than deep cold. The clearest upside is budget - accommodation runs at its lowest rates. The record: 12.3C days feeling like 10C, 5.4C nights, a notably high 137mm across 13.4 days, 25cm of snowfall in the surrounding hills, an 80 percent humidity and just 7.1 hours of sun.

Late April into May here is described as mild and warming day by day, and still early for what most people come to this coast to do. Our row is the reason: the sea is 16.5C, and air of 20.8C only reads as 23C because the humidity is 82.2 percent. The board's standing advice about this city is to bring an umbrella, because it rains a great deal - and May carries 111.3mm across 13.7 days, so that is not a formality. Their consolation is the right one: when the beach is off, the city itself is worth the day. Nights are 14C and the wind is light at 10.8 kph. The record: 10.6 hours of sun and AQI 44.

Batumi's forum calls June a genuinely good month for the Black Sea coast — warm enough for T-shirts and shorts, with the sea season running June through August. Regulars are consistent that Batumi sees real rain regularly even in early summer, so waterproof shoes or clothing are worth having alongside beach gear, with the city itself offering plenty to do on a wet day.

July and August are Batumi's sea season and the forum's description is two-sided. The beach is working - stony rather than sand - and the days are warm enough that regulars tell you not to sit in the sun through the middle of them: before noon and after six is the local rhythm. The other side is that it rains a great deal here and the humidity on the Adjara and Guria coast is high enough that, as one poster puts it, clothes never dry completely. A raincoat travels with the swimwear. The record agrees on both counts: 27.9C days that feel like 33C, 21.8C nights, 18 precipitation days carrying 210.5mm, humidity 89 percent, 11.6 hours of sun and a 25.7C sea.

August in Batumi is hot, very humid and genuinely wet - our row carries 218.4mm across 20.7 precipitation days at 89.7 percent humidity, making 28.9C feel like 35C. Regulars in Adjara describe humidity high enough that washing never dries properly, nights that stay warm, and a raincoat as a necessary item alongside summer clothes. Their accounts of the rain range from a few wet days inside a good month to one visitor's week with a day and a half of sun. The consolation they offer is that the city itself is worth walking when the beach is off, which in this month is a real possibility. The record: 22.8C nights, 11.5 hours of sun and a 28.6C sea.

Regulars are specific this counts as one of the best months to visit the wider country, not too hot and not too cold in early September, though the water here specifically turns cold after the middle of the month even as some visitors from colder countries keep swimming into October regardless. Our row backs that warm, genuinely wet read, 25.9C reading as a hot 29C, over 19.1C nights feeling 21C, with a substantial 248.7mm of rain across 16 days and humidity at 87 percent. Regulars are direct it rains a lot here specifically, genuine advice to have a backup city-exploring plan ready for any day the beach doesn't work out. The sea sits at a warm 26.1C. The record: 9.6 hours of sun, a 10.1 kph wind and AQI 41.

Forum posters describe December as cold and rainy, with the city running at a fraction of its summer liveliness - Batumi is fundamentally a Black Sea beach resort, and posters are candid the winter version is a much quieter, less interesting place than the bustling summer season. Several posters recommend Tbilisi instead for a December trip, or suggest pairing Georgia's winter with mountain destinations like Gudauri (skiing) or Bakuriani/Borjomi (hot springs and mineral water) rather than the coast. That said, posters note real day-to-day variation - one reported a comparatively mild 20C stretch in a recent December - underlining that Georgian Black Sea winters can swing between genuinely unpleasant and surprisingly mild.
