practical
We walked along Boulevard Bernardo Quintana right around sunset and the stone arches of the Acueducto, all 74 of them stretching over a kilometer, caught the light exactly the way every blog had promised. The Mirador de los Arcos terrace gave us the single best framed view of the whole structure, and unlike most of the city's landmarks it costs nothing and needs no ticket or guide. We took a slow stroll down Calzada de los Arcos to get right underneath the arches the next morning, a completely different perspective than the wide shot from the plaza at the northern end where all the arches line up together.
Traveller notes on Querétaro
What people who have been say about the place — the year-round notes first, then month by month.
Forum posters describe January as genuinely pleasant, with daytime highs commonly in the 70s-80sF and low humidity year-round thanks to the city's highland elevation (roughly a mile above sea level) - mornings and evenings turn properly cool, but posters are clear frost is essentially unheard of. The downtown Jardin Zenea area gets a festive touch over the holiday period specifically, with a large nativity scene and live music, and outdoor cafes commonly add patio heaters so evening dining stays comfortable even on a cooler night. Posters consistently rate January as one of the more comfortable, low-humidity months to explore Queretaro's colonial old town on foot.
Querétaro's forum consistently points out that the highland elevation (roughly a mile up) keeps humidity low year-round and July from feeling like the sticky Gulf Coast or Yucatán summer. Multi-day, prolonged rain is rare according to posters, even though this stretch from May through October is technically the rainy season - the more accurate picture is a daily pattern of clear mornings and a brief, heavy afternoon shower rather than a lost day. Several forum regulars specifically recommend the Central Highlands, Querétaro included, as a July escape from the more oppressive heat and humidity found at lower elevations.
