adventure
We chose Old Manali over the busier Mall Road area for our stay, and the quieter, more scenic setting made the whole trip feel calmer despite how crowded the town gets overall. We applied for our Rohtang Pass permit online weeks ahead after learning it's required due to environmental regulations, and having it sorted before arrival saved us a scramble. Visiting in late September put us in the shoulder season, fewer crowds and cheaper accommodation than the summer rush, though still with enough good weather for the Bhrigu Lake trek we'd planned. The drive itself demanded real attention on the hairpin turns, and we were glad our driver had genuine experience with hill roads rather than just city driving.
