Traveller notes on Dumaguete
What people who have been say about the place — the year-round notes first, then month by month.
Forum posters, including a local property manager, describe Dumaguete as not really having strict, sharply defined seasons - roughly November-April brings more wind and a cooler feel, while May-September is less windy but more humid. February falls in that cooler, breezier stretch and generally sits outside typhoon season, but posters report real year-to-year variation: one visitor described two straight weeks of rain during a February stay, while another found it hot with brief but violent daily rainstorms rather than sustained rain. Overall posters frame February as a reasonable dry-season bet without promising a washout-free visit.
Philippines forum regulars point out that August is the peak of the rainy season nationally, but the Visayas - where Dumaguete sits - tends to fare better than Luzon or Manila. The realistic pattern described is a short, heavy downpour most days rather than an all-day washout, leaving plenty of daylight for diving or exploring once it passes. A small typhoon can still disrupt ferry crossings for a day or two, so it's worth building slack into an island-hopping itinerary, but daily life and outdoor plans generally aren't ruined by the rain here the way they can be further north.
