Seperti apa tiap bulan di Istanbul

Ditulis oleh editor SeasonMap dari apa yang benar-benar terjadi di lapangan — bukan dari angka rata-rata.

  1. Januari

Cold, damp and grey, with the occasional snowfall that stops the city for a day. The fish restaurants under the bridges are at their best.

    quietlow season

  2. Februari

The darkest, dampest stretch. Ferries still run into the wind, and the covered markets and the hamams earn their keep.

    low season

  3. Maret

The city greens fast and the parks are planted out for the tulips; the wind off the Black Sea is still cold.

    shoulder

  4. April

Tulips fill Emirgan and the city parks for most of the month - the flower was Ottoman long before it was Dutch - and the terraces reopen.

    blossomfestivalshoulder

  5. Mei

The best month: long light, everything open, the Bosphorus flat in the mornings and no real heat yet.

    shoulder

  6. Juni

Warm and busy, tea gardens full until late, and the summer ferry timetable out to the Princes' Islands in full swing.

    peak

  7. Juli

Hot and humid, and the whole city moves to the water: islands at the weekend, Bosphorus ferries in the evening.

    peak

  8. Agustus

The heaviest heat of the year. Residents leave for the Aegean and the historic peninsula is at its most crowded.

    peak

  9. September

The heat breaks in the second half, the sea is at its warmest and the arts and music season restarts.

    sea warmshoulder

  10. Oktober

The other best month: clear light on the water, warm days, cool nights and the first rain at the very end.

    shoulder

  11. November

Wet and windy as the lodos and poyraz take turns. The ferries get bouncy and the city moves indoors.

    low season

  12. Desember

Short damp days and lit shopping streets. New Year is the main winter celebration and the Bosphorus turns grey and dramatic.

Modus penipuan

A traveler recounts a taxi fare that should have cost around 20 TRY from Sultanahmet to Beşiktaş instead climbing past 100 TRY on a meter that was visibly running faster than normal - a rigged or tampered taxi meter being one of the most commonly reported tricks in the city. Another rider describes a two-part version of the scam: the meter jumped from 60 to 80 Lira the moment passengers looked away, and after handing over a 100 TL note, the driver quickly swapped it for a 20 TL note and claimed that's what he'd been given. The consistent advice from people who've been caught out: insist the driver starts the meter before moving, watch it periodically rather than only at the end, and count out large notes clearly and out loud when paying.

Catatan pelancong tentang Istanbul

Kata mereka yang pernah ke sana — catatan sepanjang tahun lebih dulu, lalu bulan demi bulan.

Despite what its stereotypes, artificially placed palm trees, or misleading tourism brochures may imply, Istanbul is not the sunny, warm year-round holiday destination some people might hope it is. In fact, Istanbul has way more in common with Southwestern France or the Pacific Northwest than with virtually all of the cities near the Mediterranean Sea, with an average temperature around 12-14°C, it is only 1°C warmer than New York, and around the same average temperature as Portland, Oregon or Bordeaux, France. Simply put, Istanbul has an oceanic climate with some Mediterranean influences. This means very warm, mostly sunny summers, and cool to chilly, bleak winters with very frequent rain and, on occasion, snow. Istanbul is a fairly cloudy city, especially for the Eastern Mediterranean, with around 1,700-2,300 hours of sunshine, which means the skies are overcast around half of the time.…

A local's single sentence does more than any average: "usually March is cold and rainy and surprisingly snowy… yesterday morning it was snowy and -1°C, but it was sunny and 10°C in the afternoon." That is March in Istanbul — the swing happens inside one day, not across the month. The working range given is 5–15°C, and the packing advice is "same as the UK. Bring layers. It won't be hot," with the reassurance that heavy clothing isn't needed. Anyone booking March hoping for spring sunshine should read the thread's other note: one traveller had exactly that hope and was disappointed. Our record is consistent and adds a detail the posts don't — 10.8°C days, 3.9cm of snow, and 23 kph average wind, which on a strait between two seas is what makes 10°C feel like 8°C.

April: tulips in Emirgan, 18°C, and the Bosphorus ferries without a coat. Rain comes through in bands rather than settling in. Ramadan dates shift year to year and change the evening feel of the city entirely — check before booking.

Istanbul-forum threads on May crowding call it shoulder season done right: fewer crowds and cheaper prices than peak summer, tulips still blooming in the parks, and while the Spice Market and the big mosques can get busy, more than one poster says it never tips into overwhelming. Weather gets described as mild and pleasant, warm by day and cool enough at night for a light layer, with a breeze off the Bosphorus taking the edge off. May's record: 21.8C days, 13.9C nights, 40mm of precipitation across 7.8 days, 11.7 hours of sun and a 13.6C sea still too cool for swimming - good walking weather before Istanbul's real summer heat arrives.

Regulars are consistent that this isn't the city's hottest month - July and August take that title - and call a June heatwave rare enough to not plan around. Our row backs the pleasant-to-warm read, 27.4C reading as 29C over 19.2C nights, with 25.1mm of rain across 5 days, more likely in the first half of the month and typically an abrupt hour-long shower rather than a steady soak. Regulars specifically credit the Bosphorus breeze for keeping evenings comfortable even after a hot afternoon, a genuine mitigation on top of the temperature column rather than a separate weather event. The sea sits at 20C, on the cool side but swimmable for anyone not expecting the Aegean. The record: humidity 73 percent, 13.3 hours of sun and AQI 53.

Regulars land on different verdicts depending on heat tolerance - some call this hot but not unbearable, others describe genuinely brutal stretches through July and August - but they agree on the mechanism that makes a real difference: a breeze off the Bosphorus keeps waterfront areas noticeably cooler, on top of widespread air conditioning in hotels, restaurants and trams. Our row backs the real heat, 30.4C reading as a hot 32C, over 21.9C nights, with rain minimal at 32.4mm across 3.9 days and a real 22.2 kph wind. Regulars specifically recommend a hotel with independently controlled AC rather than assuming central cooling will be enough. The sea offers relief at 23.9C. The record: humidity 69 percent, 13.3 hours of sun and AQI 54.

Istanbul in September reads well on the forum: cooler than August, pleasant and mostly sunny, with maximums around 25–27°C through the middle of the month and only about five wet days across it. Late September turns cooler and can bring rain, so the standing advice is layers, a light jacket for the evening and an umbrella held in reserve. The one thing September does not deliver is quiet — it is still high season, and regulars point out that Istanbul is busy essentially year-round.

Istanbul's forum draws a real distinction within October — early in the month it's often close to ideal, warm days and cool nights with most of summer's tourists gone, while late October trends cooler and wetter, roughly a one-in-five daily chance of rain overall. Regulars' consistent advice is thin layers — t-shirt, cardigan, waterproof jacket — since experiences even in the same week can range from t-shirt weather to three rainy days out of five.
