diving
The Blue Hole's reputation as one of the world's most dangerous dive sites is entirely about the Arch, a tunnel at 52 meters that lures technical divers past their limits, but entering through the Bells and drifting into the hole as a recreational diver was genuinely beautiful and not remotely as scary as the nickname suggests. We snorkeled the shallow saddle first to get a feel for the visibility before diving properly. Freediving felt like the bigger draw for a lot of people at our camp, and several signed up with local schools for proper buddy-supervised training rather than trying it alone. We went in April and the sea was calm the whole stay.
Catatan pelancong tentang Dahab
Kata mereka yang pernah ke sana — catatan sepanjang tahun lebih dulu, lalu bulan demi bulan.
Dahab's forum flags April as Khamaseen season — the warm spring wind that can pick up across Egypt this time of year — though regulars say March-April and September-October actually bring some of the most consistent, manageable wind of the year for kite and windsurfing. A light layer for the evening is still worth packing, even though days are reliably warm.
Regulars are specific this marks the beginning of the hot season here, low humidity and a refreshing northerly breeze making the heat genuinely less uncomfortable than the raw temperature numbers alone would suggest. Our row backs that hot, genuinely bone-dry read, 33.7C reading as a hot 33C, over 24.1C nights feeling 22C, with rain essentially absent, 2.2mm across just half a day, and humidity down to 33 percent. Regulars are consistent the sea, the lagoon and the Blue Hole are the standard places to spend the hottest part of the day, some reports of Sinai's inland temperatures pushing past 40C even while the coast itself stays more moderate. The sea sits at a mild 24C. The record: 12.6 hours of sun, a 24.1 kph wind and AQI 65.
June opens the stretch the dive shops here rate highest - June, July and August, partly for the fish that arrive with it - and they add the thing beginners do not expect: in June the water still feels cold to some people, warming properly by August. Our seaTempC of 26.5C is the number behind that, warm by most standards and chilly after a long dive. Above the surface there is nothing gentle about the month: 36.2C by day, 26.9C at night, and a rain column of 0.1mm. The saving grace is the air itself, 33 percent humidity, and a 25.2 kph wind that this town is always breezy with. The record: 12.8 hours of sun and AQI 62.
Forum posters consistently rate October weather in Dahab as excellent - still warm enough for comfortable swimming and sightseeing without the more intense heat of peak summer, with the Red Sea coast generally staying around 30C by day and virtually no rain expected. Posters describe the dry heat here as easily manageable, rarely tipping into genuinely uncomfortable territory even at its warmest. Posters are consistent that Dahab specifically stays breezy essentially year-round, a real factor for beach days and a draw for windsurfers and kitesurfers, though it's worth planning for if a calmer, stiller beach day is what's wanted instead.
November in Dahab runs around 23 to 28C, and regulars add a light sweater and long trousers for the evenings, more so towards the end of the month. The wind is the month's real character: November to March is the windsurfing season here, mornings can blow hard, and the forum's line is that the strong spells are avoidable by choosing a sheltered spot rather than a different day. For diving you will want a wetsuit, easily rented in town. The sites are close in - the Islands, the reef in front of the Meridien, and the Blue Hole, which regulars discuss with respect rather than enthusiasm. The record: 26.6C days that feel like 25C, 19.6C nights, 1.3 precipitation days, humidity 49 percent, 9.7 hours of sun and a 26.3C Red Sea.
