We chose a hotel right off Parque Calderón and it made the whole trip easier, everything in the historic center within walking distance and evenings spent on the riverfront walkway along the Tomebamba watching the sunset. At 2,560 meters the altitude here is gentler than Cusco or La Paz, but we still took it easy the first day and drank more water than usual just in case.
