Guatemala's forum flags July for a real local phenomenon: 'la canícula,' a lull in the rainy season that locals recognize, making early-to-mid July noticeably less wet than the mid-July-through-August stretch that follows. Posters visiting Flores and nearby Tikal described the heat and humidity as intense but manageable for walking the ruins, with one traveler recalling four or five genuinely rainy afternoons across a longer stay and good weather the rest of the time. Everything stays lush and green throughout, which several people considered a fair trade for the humidity.
