Godt at vide, før du tager til Mexico City

Kom rundt

A traveler who rode the Mexico City metro regularly shares two habits picked up from watching locals: wearing your backpack on your front rather than your back in crowded cars, since a bag out of your own sightline is an easy target during rush hour, and specifically avoiding the 7-9am and 6-8pm windows when trains get packed enough that pickpocketing becomes noticeably easier. She also flags a genuinely useful, easy-to-miss feature for women traveling alone: the front cars of metro trains and front section of Metrobuses are reserved for women and children, marked with bright pink signage, and she describes a real camaraderie riding in that section compared to the general cars. At 5 pesos a ride regardless of distance, she rates the metro as excellent value once you've built in these basic precautions.

Noter fra rejsende om Mexico City

Hvad folk, der har været der, siger om stedet — noterne for hele året først, derefter måned for måned.

Mexico City has a monsoon-influenced temperate oceanic climate with five seasons, Spring, Summer, Monsoon, Autumn, and Winter. Spring months are mild and sunny, while the summer months warm and humid. The monsoon season lasts from June to September. Generally it consists of sunny mornings followed by cloudy afternoons with light to heavy rains. Dawn in the autumn and winter get really cold, but with an amazingly clear sky. Temperatures range from 0°C in late October, November, December and January mornings, to 32°C in March, April and May during mid-day highs. Mornings and nights may be cold, bring a good jacket in winter to stay warm.

Mexico City forum threads describe January as the coolest month but firmly dry season, with rain genuinely rare and skies reliably clear - clear enough that the surrounding volcanoes are often visible from higher floors around the city, a real marker of the clean winter air. Overnight lows can drop close to freezing, but posters were consistent that it warms up quickly once the sun is out, often reaching the low-to-mid 20s Celsius by early afternoon. The standard packing advice: real layers for the wide day-to-night temperature swing, since a cold morning and a genuinely warm afternoon in the same day is the norm rather than the exception this time of year.

Mexico City-forum threads on February weather all land on the same shape: warm, sunny days in the mid-70s Fahrenheit against genuinely cold mornings in the 40s, cool enough that people in the city bundle up before the sun climbs. The altitude gets its own warning thread every few months - at 7,350 feet the sun is more intense than the cool air suggests, and more than one poster describes feeling the elevation for a day or two after arrival, with the standing advice to keep the first day light rather than pushing straight into sightseeing. The record: 25.8C days feeling like 24C, 11.7C nights, just 17mm of rain across 4.2 days and 10.3 hours of sun - one of the driest, sunniest months on the calendar, with 52 percent humidity that keeps the heat from building through the day.

Regulars call this a dry, pleasant month, squarely inside the November-to-May dry season, but are specific that the city's altitude produces a bigger day-to-night temperature range than a similar spot at sea level would see - a pleasant 77F afternoon can drop fast into the 50s by early evening. Our row backs that swing, 27.5C reading as 26C over a real 12C night, with rain minimal at 25.2mm across 5.4 days and humidity down to a dry 48 percent. Regulars call March and November the two best overall months, with lip balm named as a small but genuinely useful packing item given how dry the air stays. The record: 10.9 hours of sun, a 12.8 kph wind and AQI 87.

Mexico City forum regulars split May into two halves: the wet season “typically begins by mid-May,” so early May tends to run drier before the rains arrive, while later May brings afternoon showers that drop the temperature “by as much as 20 degrees F...in an hour.” Days sit around 80°F (27°C) with evenings cool enough for a sweater — locals layer through the day rather than dress for one temperature, carrying a small umbrella and light rain jacket as standard kit once the rains start. Our record: 26.1°C days, 12.7°C nights, 10 rain days and an AQI of 104 — the altitude-and-basin haze that's a bigger day-to-day factor here than the rain forecast.

Mexico City forum threads draw the seasons plainly: the rainy season runs from about late May until late October, the dry season from November to late May, and the months locals rate best overall are March and November. That places October at the very end of the wet stretch - expect the tail of the season rather than its middle. The record for October: 24.3C days and 13.3C nights, humidity around 78 percent, 14 precipitation days and roughly 89mm across the month with 9.3 hours of sun. Layers matter in the evening, since the city cools quickly once the sun is down at this altitude.

November is the best month here and it isn't close: dry season has started, the sky is properly blue for the first time since May, and it's 22°C every single day. Nights are cold at 2,240 m — that surprises people who packed for 'Mexico'.
SeasonMap · november · for 9 dage siden
Regulars give December here as highs in the low seventies and lows in the low forties, which our 23.5C over 9.9C matches almost exactly - and then they explain why the number understates it. The altitude makes the cold penetrating, and almost nothing here has heating: apartments and small hotels included, with indoor temperatures reported at 16 to 18C overnight. Their consolation is that the building warms through the day, so the room does not start cold. A sweater in the evening and an extra blanket is the standing advice. Air is very dry, a dew point of 3.4C at 64 percent humidity, and rain has stopped at 16.7mm. The record: 9.6 hours of sun, a 9.9 kph wind and AQI 76.
