Goa's forum rates January as close to ideal — dry, warm, calm enough seas for parasailing and diving — and notes the crowds thin out noticeably once the New Year's rush has passed. It's peak season pricing throughout, regulars say, but a relaxed one compared to December.

What survives, and what regulars actually recommend the month for instead: waterfalls and rivers hit their most dramatic this time of year, a genuinely different Goa than the beach-town version most visitors expect. The honest upside beyond scenery: hotel discounts unavailable in peak season.
